Debut novel, Emer of Ulster
COMING SOON
Ancient Ireland, Ulster Cycle
Emer, the flawless Mistress of the Six Gifts, has watched in horror as the prophesy is fulfilled. Her beloved demigod, Cu Chulainn, has met his tragic early end. Her grief leads her to discover for herself what her mother has been foretelling all her life: Though she has resisted them, Emer’s gifts are no mistake, and it’s well past time to use them …

Calling for the goddesses to restore the life of her hero, Emer is cast into a terrifying future where she is no longer the chieftain’s daughter, but a pallid, skittish girl with a temper and no memory, whose anguish causes trauma and violence she can’t understand, or control.

Trapped in a mental hospital on an island off the coast of Edwardian England, she must master her emotions and heal herself—while holding off the monsters who pursue her from the past.
With the help of 19th century mystic Pixie Colman and her friends, can Emer reclaim her gifts, and undo what’s been done, before the magic of the ancient gods and Cu Chulainn are lost forever?

Shelagh Braley Starr was born in Kittery, Maine, the youngest of four girls. Educated in Catholic schools on the Seacoast, she found her strengths in diagramming sentences and singing in choirs and local theaters. An avid reader, she developed a special interest in mythology, history, and the unique characters of Ireland.
She studied journalism at Northeastern University, working at both daily newspapers in Boston before transitioning to a fulfilling career in tech entrepreneurship. Her work has been published in The Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Family Traveller, and more.
With her husband, Billy, she built the award-winning social network and brand MyLifeList, helping thousands of members reach their life-list goals—before deciding to live out her own, which included traveling the world (especially Ireland), and writing her debut novel, Emer of Ulster (working title).
They live in New Hampshire, where the sailing is good, with daughter Maura, son Finn, and a pack of wild Labradors that ruin any attempts at gardening.
